Panasonic VT25 3DTVs Prices Slashed by 50% When Launched in US

Panasonic’s 3-D televisions are expected to be released in the US with BestBuy, on March 10. While that’s a good thing nonetheless, the fact that the new VT25 3DTVs will cost less than their counterparts in Japan, by up to 50%, is much better news. In an effort to make 3D tech a big deal this year and to reverse losses accounted on its TVs division, we’re being told that the company execs have plans to sell a 50-inch for around $2500 — which in Japan go for ¥430,000 or some $4,750 at today’s rate. This Wednesday, the press conference will be held in a flagship BestBuy store in Manhattan, and we’re being told there will be a “photo/video opportunity of the first sale of the world’s first-ever full HD 3D home theater system.”

That includes the VT25 TV set, the DMP-BDT350 Blu-ray player and active shutter glasses, costing around $3,000.

Considering that US is said to account for half of the company’s worldwide sales target for 2010 (1 million units), cheaper prices are the final push to drive adoption of the technology.

The new Panasonic 3D televisions will be available for demo in 300 stores shortly, with 1000 locations getting them by the end of the year.
