Nintendo Restricts Super Smash Bros. 3DS Features

Do you have a New 3DS? Of course you don't — it won't be out in Japan until October and the West until next year. If you're planning to pick up Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS, that means you're out of luck, at least as far as extra features go. Nintendo is blocking some of the game's ancillary functions for those who play it on their ancient 3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS models.

NeoGAF forums member known as Cheesemeister brought the issue to light when he imported Super Smash Bros. 3DS from Japan, where it has already been out for a few days. The game itself works just fine, but the system is not capable of running the community-oriented Miiverse software at the same time. This means, among other things, that players won't be able to take and share screenshots easily.

A Nintendo representative on the official Super Smash Bros. community page explained the issue further, and Cheesemeister translated. "Miiverse cannot be run while this software is being played, so posting screenshots to this community is not possible," the post read. "When using this software for the New Nintendo 3DS or New Nintendo 3DS XL, Miiverse can be used while playing."
