Highly anticipated educational virtual reality (VR) experience Titanic VR by developers Immersive VR Education wil be coming soon to HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR.

The experience follows a fictionalised account of the discovery and exploration of the famous wreck, where players take on the role of a Dr Ethan Lynch, a professor of the fictional University of Nova Scotia. Lynch is leading a mission to find the wreck of the Titanic and uncover the truth of what happened during the sinking of the vessel.

Players will be tasked with completing missions such as rescuing a lost ROV (Remote Operated underwater Vehicle), recovering, cleaning and preserving century-old artefacts from the wreck, create a photo mosaic and even work with a famous director. Alternatively, players can ignore the story and choose instead to explore the remains of the ship using an ROV in sandbox mode.

The exploration of the famous wreck will form the first part of the Titanic VR story. A second part is planned for release later this year, and will allow players will to get a glimpse into the past, seeing the events that led up to the disaster, based on eye-witness testimony and research.

David Whelan, CEO Immersive VR Education Ltd said: “We’ve used comprehensive maps to create a realistic 3D model of the wreck site. We used motion capture, face-scanning technology and professional voice actors to immerse users in the story. We wanted to create an accurate portrayal of events so that it is not only educational, but also emotionally engaging.”
